Working in fibers is a natural
medium for Marilyn. As a child she learned to embroider, knit, crochet and
sew. Her love of fiber work continued into adulthood with the addition of
spinning, weaving and basketry to her fiber vocabulary. As a basket
artist, she has shown her work nationally and regionally, and has taught
at national conventions and conferences. She has written several articles
for publication in such periodicals as News Basket, Basket Bits and
Piecework. Her work can be seen in Fiberarts Design Books
three, four and five, Baskets A Book for Makers and Collectors by
Billie Ruth Sudduth, Basket Traditions and Beyond by Leit, Peters
and Waters, Textile Techniques in Metal for Jewelers, Textile Artists
and Sculptors, by Arline Fisch. Her work can be found in public and
private collections around the country and she has won awards for her work
at every level. She holds a BFA with an emphasis on fiber from the
University of Washington. Living in Seattle, Washington, she continues to
explore the vessel form physically and metaphorically. As a long time
member of the Seattle Weaver's Guild and the Vi Phillips Northwest
Basketry Guild, Marilyn has more recently joined the National Basketry
Organization, Friends of fiber Arts International, Northwest Designer
Craftsmen, Northeast Basketmakers Guild, Association of Michigan
Basketmakers, and the Indiana Basketmakers Association. |
