The
Bargello fabric found in the Bargello Palace in Florence
inspires these earrings. The flame-like pattern is popular
in many of the needle arts. The earrings are named after one
of the Vestal Virgins from Ancient Rome. They were
priestesses of the goddess Vesta and responsible for
maintaining the sacred fire of the temple. They were
selected from distinguished families at an early age and
enjoyed privileges that other Roman women were not
permitted.
The
earrings are made following a color pattern using diagonal
brick stitch with increases and decreases at the end of a
row. The brick stitch pattern is then attached to a bezeled
coin pearl and embellished with a backstitch and
semi-precious drop. |
