Dallas Lovett

Wire wrapping is one of the oldest methods of making jewelry by hand. Wire art of some form has been used by many civilizations through out history for centuries. The craft has been found as far back as the Ancient Phoenicians, even found in Egyptian tombs dating 4000 years ago. It is said the first piece of jewelry made entirely of wire was produced by an Egyptian goldsmith. These designs and techniques have been passed down through the ages and are still seen in jewelry today.

There are wire artists today who practice and use these same techniques in their work. Dallas Lovett has the uncanny ability to look at color, form and shape from a different point of view, which can be seen in his work. He is inspired by the rich textures and forms in nature in the many regions of the world. His art can easily be categorized into inspirational groups; organic forms, floral, architectural design and more.

Dallas Lovett’s designs have captured the attention of many across the globe, “whose distinctive, intricately wire worked jewelry designs could be described as “modern baroque” for all the fantastic twists and turns within each piece” said Editor in chief of Beadwork magazine, Marlene Blessings. “His style is so distinctive that if you see a student wearing one of his pieces...., you can tell immediately that she/he has taken a Dallas Lovett class”, said Doris Coghill in an article she wrote about him for Beadwork Magazine.

His philosophy and approach to design is to take his chosen medium to a higher professional standard. Many people think that Dallas’s work looks advanced, but the way it is broken down step-by-step, he makes it easy to follow, allowing the students to create a successful finished piece in class, whether they are beginners or advanced. He actively encourages each student’s growth and further exploration of the arts.

For 15 years Dallas has been teaching at shows, bead stores, Bead societies, nationally and internationally. He is credited and awarded in many competitions through out his design career. Dallas always has something new to offer his students and his out going approach to teaching, creates a fun learning atmosphere in the classroom, hence the phrase “Weave it, Wire it, Lovett.
